About The BiG A

“The Big A” Anthony Stabile has done it all at the racetrack.

After graduating from St. John’s University in his native Queens, NY in 1998, Stabile began working at the New York Post as a handicapper and reporter exactly one year after graduation day. While at the Post, he handicapped races across the country, covered the biggest races in New York and New Jersey, both Thoroughbred and harness, and co-hosted Thoroughbred Central, a dark day TV program for New York City OTB.

The Big A spent close to 15 years writing and handicapping for VegasInsider.com, which at the time, was one of the most popular sports and racing content websites in the country. He was on-site for both the 2008 and 2009 Triple Crown races and his videos were amongst the most popular in the history of the site.

In 2013, Anthony tried his hand at radio, co-hosting a number of programs, including the extremely popular Call-In Show, for the Horse Racing Radio Network (HRRN). It was at HRRN that he built some his strongest bonds with the biggest names in racing as he traveled up and down the East Coast covering the sport.

In 2015, The Big A began working for The New York Racing Association, hosting the popular Breakfast at Belmont, a fan-friendly, morning at the track, that allowed folks a closer glimpse at what the day-in-the-life of a horse and the backstretch workers looked like. In 2016, he made his Talking Horses debut before becoming the regular co-host at the end of 2017. Stabile began making appearances on NYRA’s national programming in 2018 on America’s Day at the Races and Saratoga Live and was the resident harness expert when the programming expanded to nighttime harness action.

On December 13, 2018, a month after a by chance conversation with Frank Mirahmadi, The Big A fulfilled his lifelong dream of calling a horse race, when “Ajnadeen was on the scene,” to take the second race at Aqueduct on a late autumn afternoon at Aqueduct. The race was so well received that he became the backup announcer at Aqueduct in 2019, calling for days and weeks at a time, while subbing for the legendary John Imbriale.

Stabile began working full-time for NYRA in January 2022 when he took on the role of content producer for NYRA Bets. Blogs and social media for the website were added to his TV and announcing duties.

Early in 2023, Anthony began moonlighting in the booth at Yonkers Raceway and continued doing so well into spring 2024 after leaving NYRA in 2023.

On April 1, 2024, The Big A became just the third track announcer at Finger Lakes Racetrack in Farmington N.Y., a position he still holds.
